Dress for Success is a saying on the basis of sound advice ~ tips that really works! Increasingly, I fear that goes by the wayside, particularly with regard to the more casual vocations such as massage therapy. There are several reasons why massage therapists are Dress for Success.
I am a keen observer of the world around me, especially when it comes to the body and body therapists. Over the years I saw many examples of how not to succeed, would fascinate you dress. I’ll post some of these shares my point, that’s easy to do if you are Dress for success, you tend to succeed when you do not.
I live in an area full of massage therapists, mobile therapists, and above all ~ there is hardly a week goes by that I do not see a therapist performing a table in or out of a session, when I go into town and therapists have in ~ I come to my house for meetings, I have many examples of how not to share Dress for success.
What if you had placed yourself in the shoes of a new client? Not necessarily your customers, if the following description (and hopefully not for you!) Fit, but you think that only a generic client looking for a massage at home.
Suppose you call a therapist and made an appointment with her at home. You never met the therapist before you saw a ~ or advertising, Internet or otherwise, or someone referred them to you. A conversation with the therapist on the phone, it tells you the sentence, we say the fun is $ 100 for 75 minutes, and arrange an appointment. Before she arrives, make sure your house is clean and tidy, and you’ve showered, shaved and washed her hair as a guide for the therapist. You have the kids packing, golfing man and sent the dogs in the yard and off the phone. So far, so good, right?
It rings, and you in your clothing, looks through the peephole in the door. They are clear, well-dressed ~ ~ a professional therapist, but what you see is a hairy slob, just as they left the gym after a sweaty workout. When she is not wearing a massage table, you probably would not open the door, but there it is, you. Open the door. If a woman with a wrinkled T-shirt training pants with a screen saying semi-obscene printed on the front and a small hole near the neck, sneakers, and you are pretty sure that was not washed her hair in a week.
At this point, it will not matter if the therapist had Mother Teresa (in disguise as a bum) to give you a massage, is the fact that throughout the session, ask why this situation is slob charging $ 100 per session, when they obviously have no respect for its customers. Also during the meeting you are otherwise you can get the next time, because you do not want to think this person is returning icky. The chances are good you will not enjoy the massage and you do not remember anything good about him or her.
I would like to say that in my “Imagine” scenario to exaggerate, but I’m not. Obviously this is not how to dress for success.
Here is part of what I had actually seen it ~ a therapist on the road, as I’m driving, or therapists come to my house, that Dress for Success:
I had a therapist come to my house looked like it jumped out of bed and threw everything they found lying on the floor. I saw a therapist at a table wearing shorts, his car (I say “no secret” shorts), flip flops and a wife-bat T-shirt. Seriously. I’ve seen therapists wear tank tops and gym shorts, wearing ripped jeans therapists Hoochie Koochie-mini skirts and low cut-outs, slinky spaghetti tops with no bra wearing. I also saw wrinkled (that is, not ironed) therapists that you can imagine. I saw a man with the table in the Appendix of men run private research, as he crawled out of a dumpster. It takes all kinds, and I think that look is appealing to some, but I would not hire him. Do not get me started on shoes dirty. I’ve seen therapists wear shoes that had just appeared to be a stable shoveling manure. I’ve therapists sandals with chipped nail polish and see peeling and worn … dirty fingernails. Can you imagine how a customer with these rough feet with face cradle?
I must admit, just write these descriptions makes my skin crawl. While none of these therapists are not a paying customer, but maybe a friend’s house, I feel like a spectator was terrible, and of course, is a lasting impression. I also have therapists who have been very impressive to see in her dress. Clean and fresh, is associated with total and absolute confidence. I thought, “Wow, it’s a professional look and ~, which is how to dress for success that … And I bet they are very busy!”.
Now I understand that his prior military, where strength and growth has been on my regular shopping list for 35 years older, I probably have higher standards for my work clothes than most people. I understand that, but I also know that the experience gave me a competitive advantage over therapists who did not have as high standards as myself. I know that the first impression I made on a client for the first time that a neat, clean, was a professional therapist.
That’s really what the whole concept of Dress for Success ~ is a positive lasting impression. Here is another popular adage. “First impressions are lasting:” It’s popular because it’s true.
I’m old enough to attend my parents always dressed up, if they leave the party when they dance, a party, the local bar or a special event were. My father, a truck driver in the building, in a suit and tie, and my mother always wore a dress and high heels. Yes, my father was a truck driver had no less than seven or eight costumes, many links, shirts, and of course, perfectly polished shoes Florsheim ~ a brown pair and a pair of black. I used to admire the costumes, as it hung in his closet. There were costume anthracite, sharkskin suit, dress brown, beige suit, black suit, etc. Also, as a truck driver and his pants were always ironed his shirt and work boots always polished. My mother worked in a city office, and she always dressed to impress. I do not think it a coincidence that it was a great success in his career. It is interesting that all of their friends, well, pretty much all the adults I knew, as she dressed out, where people today jeans anywhere for almost any occasion. The point is, my parents dressed like an impression on me that my whole life lasted long made so far. There was another time, in fact, but it serves to remind me how important it is that you place in your way, especially if you are involved in your own business.
I think my parents feel I can be sustainable is why the best part of basic training for me was the ritual taught me to take my uniform. I always had the highest in the folds of my shirt, and even my battle dress and my shoes and boots were highly polished glass. In the army, if you work at a desk or as a mechanic, what was your job, your dress is neat, clean, pressed and lit ~ always. Of course, if you are in the middle of the fight, not so much, but in general the working day, there are grooming standards that you are required to hold. We were very aware of our standards, are found at any time and can often be “grooming” on the other, especially for an upcoming inspection. Yes, of course, there were some who did not take the standards seriously, but they were also those whose work was sloppy and showed a lack of pride.
Today, many people are very casual in their dress for every occasion. When I was younger, I thought everything was casual, but now I’m not so sure it’s a good thing. A few years ago I remember when visiting my uncle’s widow in Las Vegas, he decided to go and my mother to a show on the Strip. They dressed as always in a suit and tie, my mother a beautiful dress. When she arrived at the door, said the ticket taker he was so nice to see people of all ~ all were dressed casually for a change, so they’re really attracted from the crowd.
Because I live in a resort, I see a glut of casual wear, and I confess I am too often guilty of myself. But I think, mean that too many therapists that mean that any random or because they work for themselves, or because they have a physical job, they can careless in their dress, when in fact, the opposite is true.
When I find the massage, I was a clean freak in the garb of my students. I admit, I was just a drill sergeant. Clean, clean, without spot, wrinkle free scrubs, shoes, clean fingernails, tidy hair was a requirement in my class. I had a lot of Flack from my students that to wear with scrubs was considered an affront to their feelings, but I will not discourage me, my teaching standards. Each time we were ready to practice for my students that I feed them two more on marking spots, wrinkles, son suspended, etc., which would affect their overall grade. The first line-up was a nightmare because they do not take me seriously, and therefore, they paid the price. After the first inspection, you have never seen a neater, cleaner expected group of therapists aligned over time to see. What is more striking than their cleanliness, their attitude changed. The first line-up, they were surly, with terrible posture and honestly looked like bums who have no interest in it. After the disastrous first line-up, they stood in their line so proud as could be! Her posture was straight, his eyes beaming with pride, and their general behavior was that of an unshakable confidence. Her massage practice reached a higher level of confidence!
Students who have embraced my strict standards for clothing found much easier to work in luxury spas, which have their own uniform and high standards to get. High-end spas and hotels know their employees from every aspect of their existence, what they wear because of their behavior ~ every second, day and night are judged by their guests. Consequently, they carried their standards into their employees, even with its own line of inspections in the early layers. It is important to note that are not high-end hotels and spas ~ accidentally successful there is a reason for their standards. Dress for Success is certainly an important aspect of their own clothing protocol.
The bottom line is this: When people ~ your customers, the public ~ treat you like a professional, you need to act like a professional. Acting as a professional includes many things, and dress like we are near the top of the list. Dress for Success does not mean that your customers in a suit or dress have massage, but especially if you take someone you want to look at you and before you lay your hands on them you want them to have full confidence in themselves and your abilities. It is an experimental aspect of massage that goes through our hands. It is the sense of table linen, the comfort of the table (warm in winter, cool in summer), the feel and flavor oils, relaxing music, and your touch … Them. That’s all incredibly important for the overall experience, and it begins when the customer opens the door.
Her work “uniform” is shorts or sweats and a polo or scrubs does not mean this, one can not be proud of your place and you. A therapist arriving home from a customer who recently had more than a few days earlier, the clothes clean, ironed (or at least wrinkled clothes), shoes perfectly clean, bathed nails clean and neatly combed hair or style is a positive and lasting impression on the client. You can be the most impressive with the therapist’s hands to the most impressive in the world, but if you stink, if you look like you stink, your clothes are wrinkled when stained and … It does not matter how amazing you are, because the client does not want you to touch her body forever. Remember to Dress for Success is a saying, because it works ~ when you go to work.
